"He will face firm opposition": in Menton, Louis Sarkozy attracts the anger of the communists

This Saturday, the mayor of Saint-Raphaël, Frédéric Masquelier, inaugurated a memorial in tribute to the victims of "communist totalitarianism." The much-discussed initiative has sparked a reaction in the Pearl of France. The reason? The publication this Friday of a photo (on the social network X) by Louis Sarkozy.
The neo-Mentonnais with barely concealed ambitions visited the mayor of Saint-Raphaël, accompanied by the Argentine ambassador, Ian Seleicki, to inaugurate this stele. Describing communism as a "deadly, murderous, immoral, and retrograde ideology." That was all it took to provoke a reaction from Jean-Michel Cucinelli.
"He will find firm opposition against him."The head of the French Communist Party in Menton responded in a statement, stating that the local group "strongly denounces the revisionism of Louis Sarkozy, who saw fit to recently go to Saint-Raphaël to unveil a monument this Saturday "in memory of the victims of communism." Such an approach amounts to a falsification of history. It is all the more shameful when we remember that it was the French communists, in the South as everywhere in France, who were on the front line in the Resistance against the Nazi occupier and Vichy collaboration."
The former municipal councilor issues a warning: "If Louis Sarkozy considers running in the municipal elections in Menton, he should know from now on that he will face firm and resolute opposition. The communists of Menton will never allow a selective, mendacious, and insulting memory of those who gave their lives for freedom and justice to flourish."
Although there are many indications that he will soon be campaigning, the son of the former President of the Republic has still not made any official declaration of candidacy for the mayoralty of Menton for the 2026 municipal elections.
